Welcoming Autumn: How to Stay Grounded as the Seasons Change

September 19, 2024

Autumn, fall, grounding, earthing

As the buzzy summer days fade into the crisp autumn breeze, we enter a season of comfort. With the fall equinox on September 22nd, nature begins to break down in preparation for its ultimate renewal. Leaves fall, crops are harvested and the air chills, signalling what’s to come. It’s a cozy time of year for grounding ourselves in routine, settling into a slower pace and getting ready for a deep freeze.

At our core, we believe in staying connected—whether it’s to the Earth, to nature, or to the people around us. When the seasons shift, it offers us a lesson in accepting change and maintaining a presence for the fleeting moments. The transience of nature guides us through life, contributing to our overall growth and well-being.

Here’s how we like to lean into fall while nurturing ourselves.

Home + Garden

There’s nothing like coming home to a warm, inviting space after a relaxed autumn walk. Preparing your house for the season is more than just raking up the leaves and swapping out decor—it’s about creating a sanctuary where you can feel love and light in the darkness of winter.

  • Cozy up: Now’s the time to bring out the soft blankets (hello ground therapy throw!) and ensure you have all the warm, ambient lights ready for when it gets dark at 5 pm. Diffusers with seasonal scents—like cinnamon, pumpkin and vanilla—can make your home extra inviting. Lastly, swap your summer shorts for your favourite knitwear!
  • Comfort food: Take your fall harvest and turn it into hearty soups, slow-cooked stews, and all things warm and nourishing. Fill your pantry with staples like squash, apples, and spices. It’s also a great time to bake pumpkin bread or try out slow-cooker recipes that fill your home with the comforting autumn smells.
  • Garden care: With cooler temperatures on the way, it’s time to harvest your fruits and veggies, clear out dead plants and prep your garden for spring. Plus, if you get your hands dirty and do it barefoot, you’re getting in some Earthing before the snow falls. 😉

Preparing your home is a beautiful way to embrace the new season, creating a space where you can get comfy and recharge.

Mind + Body

The equinox is an excellent opportunity to check in with yourself and make adjustments to your wellness routine.

  • Go outside: Earth has a way of helping us slow down, and this time of year, it stops us with the natural beauty. Some of our favourite ways to celebrate fall outdoors include larch hikes, bike rides and campfires. Not only is going outside an opportunity to appreciate the world around us, it’s also good for our mental health. And when it gets too chilly to go outside, check out our indoor grounding products so you stay connected to Earth’s energy no matter the weather.
  • Boost immunity: Colder weather means more colds and sniffles. Stock up on vitamin-C-rich foods, herbal teas and immune-boosting remedies.
  • Adjust workouts: As the days get shorter, you might find it harder to go for a run at 7 am or struggle with the energy to give it your all in your strength training. This is natural! As nature slows, so should you. Movement is still essential, so try different things to stay active.

When settling into a new season, a little extra care goes a long way in keeping your body and mind balanced.

Heart + Soul

As the seasons transition, it gives us a nudge to pause, reflect, and realign our priorities. This mindset shift can be subtle, but it’s an opportunity to set intentions for the rest of the year.

  • Finish strong: Write out your goals and set your intentions for the last quarter of the year. What do you want to let go of, and what do you want to embrace? Whether focusing on self-care, simplifying your routine, or setting new wellness goals, this is a perfect opportunity to realign your priorities.
  • Community love: This time of year has many traditions that unite people. From Thanksgiving to Halloween, these moments of connection with family and friends make the season feel extra special and comforting. Make sure to take time for pumpkin carving, walks and potlucks with loved ones.

These reflective moments give you the space to feel grounded in yourself and your intentions as the year winds down.
